Review #15; Rye #2: Whistlepig 12

Background: Whistlepig is a brand known for sourcing well aged ryes. This expression is a 12 year rye, that after ageing for 12 years in new American oak has been finished in Madeira, Sauternes, and Port casks for a non-disclosed amount of time. It is then blended together and bottled.

ABV: 43%

Nose: Bright spicy rye, accented by a warm hint of green apple with the faint background of oak and vanilla. A very well balanced nose that screams flavor

Palate: A good nice feel. That rye and apple mix as they form a medium oil mouth that transitions more towards the rye side as you finish it. A second sip reinforces the flavor.

Finish: A warm dry finish of the spice brings to mind oak, leather, pepper and cinnamon. It lingers and fades into a vanilla apple finish.

Conclusion: This is a very good rye. I do not have too much experience but this hit all kinds of good flavors for me. A very easy tasty drink I could see this being a good background whiskey or the focus of the night. This falls into that fall/winter weather whiskey you sip on a cold night watching the snowfall.
