Review #147; American Whiskey #5: Michter’s Sour Mash

Background: This is a whiskey bottled by the Michter’s line, made up of an undisclosed Masbhill that makes it neither Bourbon or Rye. I had this blind so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 43%

Nose: Heavy Artificial Banana, Overpowering Sweetness, Bubblegum. Man this nose is overpoweringly sweet

Palate: Thin, watery mouthfeel. Artificial Banana, Cinnamon, oak, light vanilla.

Finish: Short, oak, tannins, banana, bubblegum.

Rating: 3/10

Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade, but the nose of this promises an overwhelmingly sweet palate (not a fan of) and then the palate and finish is just so much artificial banana and thin ethanol. Not a fan.

Guess: This is a Brown Foreman Product, between 42-48%, likely no age statement. I am going to guess Old Forester 1910.

Reveal: Michters Sour Mash

Pretty good on the guess considering the BF contract distilling associated with the brand.
