Review #132; Scotch #37: Bowmore 16yr 1997 SMWS 3.227

Background: This is a single barrel bottled by the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society. This was aged for 16 years in a Refill sherry butt before being bottled at cask strength with no color added and was non-chill filtered. I had thing blind then was revealed the bottle so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 56.4%

Nose: Plums, Gingerbread, Melons, slight peat. Vanilla

Palate: Medium, oily, wet mouthfeel. Lightly Peated, honeydew, nutmeg, vanilla, heat, and oak.

Finish: Medium length, ashy, peaty, creamy vanilla, oak.

This is fine. Decent flavors, runs a little hot on the finish and palate but fine overall. A touch heavy on the oak. I don’t think Id buy a bottle but its worth trying.

Rating: 5/10

Guess: Laphoraig Cairdeas Cask Strength Quarter Cask

Reveal: SMWS 3.227 Bowmore 16
