Background: This is a 2 year old Bourbon from Texas craft whiskey distiller Balonces. This was aged for 2 years after being distilled on a Pot Still in Texas in New Charred American Oak casks. I had this blind so keep that in mind while reading my review.
ABV: 46%
Nose: Green wood, vanilla sweetness, bubblegum, oak, mocha hint, astringent, baking spices
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Green wood, astringent, grainy, heavy corn, sawdust,
Finish: Short Finish, Heavy corn, greenwood, Mocha, some baking spice, sawdust
This is a bit of a mess flavor wise. There are some good notes in here, but this is really young, 4 years or less. Heavy sawdust and corn notes. The youth is holding this back heavily and Im not sure I would want to see this at an older age. Give me AAA instead.
Rating: 3/10
Guess: Craft Distillery, Young Bourbon, and Mocha note make me think Balcones. Would guess New Riff but Ive never had a new riff this sawdusty. 45-50%, Less than 4 years old.
Reveal: Balcones pot Still Bourbon
Yeah it was what I thought, I’ve had a few Balcones products now blind, 3 to be exact, and I’ve found all of them to not agree to my palate. But hey they may agree to yours!
