Review #130; Scotch #36: Hazelburn 9yr 2007

Background: This Hazelburn comes to us from the Springbank distillery. This single malt was aged for 9 years in First fill Sauternes before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 56.9%

Nose: Fruity nose, pears, apples, Cinnamon, malty. Very different nose

Palate: Warm, oily, Cereals, Malty, Pears, cinnamon, baking spices, an underlying sweetness I can’t place. Well balanced between sweet and and savory, some good Sulphur in there.

Finish: Dry, medium length. Bitter and tangy, oak, Sulphur again. This is ok. There are flavors in there but it gets a muddled near the end. The finish is very bitter and detracts from it overall. All in all its an average drink.

Rating: 5/10

Guess: Highland Scotch, Sherry finish, 45-50%, 8-12 years old

Reveal:Hazelburn, 9year 2007 FF Sauternes, 56.9%
