Review #122; Scotch #33: Deanston 12 (Brown Label)

Background: This is a standard release from Deanston, their 12 year old single malt that has been aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks.

ABV: 43%

Nose: Plums, dark fruits mainly berries, grapes, hint of honey. The nose mellows over time on this.

Palate: Thick, oily mouthfeel. Dark fruits, honey, dark chocolate, a bit of heat. Kind of a waxiness to it as well.

Finish: Medium length, Honey, plums, some leather and oak influence as well.

Overall this is pretty tasty, good notes and very dessertey. It’s a simple, few note dram that I would’nt mind having a bottle of depending on the price.

Guess: The waxiness makes me think clynelish, but Im not sure. Best Guess: 15-18 Year single malt, Px finish, 48-52% Abv

Way off on this guess, but this is a tasty OB. Would love to have this on hand all the time as a good example of an entry level ex-bourbon scotch.
