Review #103; Scotch #22: Laphroaig Cairdeas 2017

Background: This bottling was initially matured for over five years in first-fill bourbon The whisky was then transferred to American oak quarter-casks for a further six months. The single malt is non chill-filtered and bottled at cask-strength.

ABV: 57.2%

Nose: BBQ-esque Peat, Salt, hint of ash, vanilla hint, oak, medicinal/iodine.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Sweet peat, smoke, vailla hint, citrus, heavy oak, ash.

Finish: Medium length, peat, medicinal, iodine, vanilla, ash.

Rating: 6/10

This is a good expression, but I prefer the 10CS I had to this. This is a touch heavy on the oak influence; this is good and interesting but is just fine for what It is.

1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.

2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice.

3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.

4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.

9 | Incredible | An all time favorite

10 | Perfect | Perfect
