Review #1028: Rum #357: Faraday West Indies Rum Redux Single Cask Dominican Republic 11yr 2011

Faraday West Indies Rum Redux Single Cask Dominican Republic 11yr 2011

NOTE: Faraday sent me this bottle free of charge

This is a single cask of rum from Faraday, an independent rum bottler who is just now sticking their toes into the single cask rum game. This single cask comes from Alcoholes Fino Dominicanos, a distillery located in the Dominican Republic in San Pedro de Macoris. This was distilled in 2011, put into a once used bourbon cask and aged for 8 years in the Dominican Republic. It was then shipped to the Netherlands, re-racked into an ex-bourbon cask, and aged for an additional 3 years before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 61.7%

Nose: Slight burnt brown sugar, Allspice, Char, Vanilla, over-ripe blueberries, touch of tobacco leaf

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, dark chocolate, allspice, tobacco leaf, vanilla bean, char

Finish: Medium length finish, Allspice, Tobacco leaf, vanilla bean, char, slight cherry

Rating: 7/10

Great. This hits right in the spot of being savory and decadent. Dark chocolate, cherry, some tobacco leaf and allspice. The barrel char rounds it out. The shorter finish keeps it from rising above just being great but it drinks well below proof and is overall very tasty.
