Review #1016; Rum #347: Compagnie Des Indes Great White Ghana Overproof Rum

Compagnie Des Indes Great White Ghana Overproof Rum

This rum comes to us from independent bottlers CDI. Their Great White’s series is a celebration of unaged rum from all around the world. This rum is an unaged cane juice rum from the Mid West Ghana Distillery located in Ghana. It was distilled on a pot still and bottled at a high proof with no additives.

ABV: 50%

Nose: Faint, raspberry, bell pepper, brine

Palate: Light mouthfeel, brine, bell pepper, a bit of lemon, minerality

Finish: Short finish, Brine, Bell pepper, slight lemon

Rating: 5/10

This has good promise. I can tell the base distillate is of good quality. I’m not sure if this needs more proof or it’s distilled high and watered down low. I want to like this more than I do, its cane juice and pot still so it should be a winner. But, if it were a bit cheaper I’d keep some around (I might even just get some for the novelty)
