Review #100: Tasmanian Whiskey #1: Heartwood @$%&*4

So here we are at 100 reviews, crazy to think that its here. Decided to finally try something Ive had for a few months, a Tasmanian Heartwood Release.

Per Heartwoods website:

• Cask No: TD0124

• Cask Type: 2nd Fill Port

• Finish: 2 x 1st Fill Sherry

• Filled: August 2006

• Bottled: May 2017

Alc/Vol: 62.5%

This whisky has caused me a great deal of grief. Hence its name.

337 bottles x 500 ml

7 years in a second fill port cask TD0124

3 years in 2 x 1st fill sherry casks plus numerous belting and verbal abuse.

Nose: Sweet, malty, lemon zest, berries, tartness, grapes, oak, and a Sulphur hint. Very different and interesting nose.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Dark fruits, malty, oak, tart berries, grapes, hint of honey, Sulphur but not overpowering. A good balance and mix that avoids being overly sweet due to a kind of musty note I can’t place along with the tart. This is delicious on the palate to drink.

Finish: long, a mix of fruits, oak, a hint of allspice lingers on and leaves a warm delicious coating that sticks with you.

This is different from most everything Ive had so far and really quite spectacular.
