Review #1: American Whiskey #1: Michter’s American Whiskey

Background: As a background, I am newish to American Whiskey and Bourbons as I Started on Irish in College and then moved to Scotch. However, I have been enjoying Bourbons and will be taking a stab at some reviewing as a way to contribute. This whiskey comes to us by way of Michters an Non Distilling Producer who sourced and bottled this American Whiskey.

ABV: 41.7%

Setting: Neat in a Gleincarin, allows to sit for 10 minutes

Nose: Good notes, strong on the Caramel to the point I have issues with the other profiles.

Taste: Sweet, can really taste the Caramel and a bit of vanilla with just a hint of oak from the used bourbon barrels. Also on the back end of the taste a hint of spice.

Finish: Medium length finish that is strong on the vanilla.

Rating: 6/10

Conclusion: As a newcomer to bourbon, (I know this is not a bourbon) I really enjoyed this. I did not enjoy how difficult it was to find in my area but I enjoyed it for the price point of 40 dollars. From my inexperience, a good classic bourbon is a good intro to bourbon and a good intro to whiskey in general due to its easily drinkable nature and friendly notes and taste. A truly fine whiskey worthy of inclusion in your bar
