Review #1353; Rum #656
Here we have a rum distilled from molasses at the Renaissance distillery in Taiwan. This molasses fermented for 15 days and was distilled on a pot still before ageing in a PX cask in Taiwan for 5 years and being bottled at cask strength with no additives.
Distillery: Renaissance
Bottler: Renaissance
Region: Taiwan
Still: Pot
ABV: 64.5%
Nose: Blackberry Compote, Dark Chocolate, Raisins, Toasted Nuts, Pine Sol, Black Pepper, Apple Cider Vinegar
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Dark Chocolate, Raisins, Blackberry Compote, Apple Cider Vinegar, Allspice
Finish: Long finish, Toasted Peanuts, Black Pepper, Dark Chocolate, Black Tea, Apple Cider Vinegar
Rating: 8/10
An excellent rum for sure with great flavor, however the PX cask comes across as so powerful it smothers out a bit of that unique rot I tend to get from Renaissance bottlings I have been able to try. Still a great release, but I wanted more of the base spirit to poke through. Its a PX bomb but its an excellent PX bomb.
