Raising Glasses: Privateer 5 Year Queen’s Share “Her Majesty”

Review #1298; Rum #603

This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.

Here we have a bottling of rum from Raising Glasses, that Massachusetts based American independent bottler. Here, they have a rum distilled from molasses on a pot still from Privateer, an American rum distillery located in Ipswich, Massachusett. The rum aged for 1 year 1 month in oak before being transferred to a first fill Newport Kentucky bourbon cask for 3 years and 11 months of ageing. It was then bottled at cask strength with no additives.

This is a good offering of rum. Privateer is always on the top of best American rum producer lists as it should be. They make a very consistent, very good product. This is another one of those such products. For me , the only reason this doesn’t rank a bit higher, is that it feels like the bourbon cask comes in a little bit aggressive for my tastes. But that is ok, I appreciate that the folks at Raising Glasses bottle something for everyone.
