Review #1059; Rum #387
Here in front of us we have another rum from Ecuador, though this one may be far more interesting than the S.B.S offering. this Puro comes to us from a father and grandson team, Remigio and Ismael Cordero. Surales, a small hamlet in Ecuador, is located at 4000 feet elevation between Guayaquil and Cuenca. The family grows Cana Blanc on their organic estate. The sugar cane is hand harvested, crushed, and fermented with wild natural yeasts. It is double distilled on a pot still and bottled with no additives or dilution directly off the still. Puro is the local name for unaged white rum.

Nose: Briney, Olive Oil, Vegetal, soupy, fennel, allspice, dill, plantain, Granny Smith Apple Peel
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Olive oil, brine, green apple, dill, fennel, peppery, mango, Granny Smith Apple
Finish: Medium length finish, olives, brine, green apple, fennel, dill, green bell pepper, mango
Final Score: 7/10
This is a great rum. Loaded with savory notes that is a bit soupy with some fruits thrown in, this is in the vein of Clairin and Viche in all the best ways. A real winner in taste and price (39.99 at K&L currently).
