Review #1241; Mezcal #81

Here we have another bottling of from Neta done for Astor wines and spirits. This mezcal was produced by Primitivo Vásquez Vásquez. This is equal parts Madrecuixe, Mexicano Verde and rare Penca Larga. All the plants were cooked , fermented, and distilled together. He uses a conical earthen oven for cooked, mashes with a machete, axe, and shredder, and fermented with cypress sabino wood tanks. Its then distilled on a copper pot still.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Grilled Bell Pepper, Rain Water, Minerality, touch of coriander, Mint

Finish: Long Finish, Grilled Bell Pepper, Earthy, Minerality, Rain Water, Coriander

Rating: 8/10

Wow what a great offering. This is a great combination of balance and flavor here, strong savory forward notes, minerality, and the spices really make for a special bottling of mezcal.
