Review #1423; Rum #722
This rum was bottled by Mainland Rum, a newer American independent bottler focusing on rums produced in the continental United States (sorry Alaska and Hawaii!) This rum was distilled at Florida Carribean Distillers , a massive distillery located in Florida that makes the Club Caribe Rum, Ron Carlos, and a slew of RTD cocktails and sangria. This rum was distilled from molasses on a column still, put into a sherry cask, and aged for 7 years in sherry before being bottled at barrel proof.
Distillery: Florida Caribbean Distillers
Bottler: Mainland Rum
Region: Florida, USA
Still: Column
ABV: 56.8%
Nose: Raspberry, Bready, Sulphur, Black Pepper
Palate: Thin mouthfeel, Sulphur, Raspberry, Black Pepper, Nutmeg
Finish: Short length finish, Black Pepper, Raspberry, Nutmeg
Rating: 4/10
I did want to like this more as it feels good to support American distilleries. Sadly, at the end of the day, this tastes like a rum distilled in a highly efficient column still, stripped of flavor, then stuck in a not great quality sherry cask. Disappointing for me.
