Duncan Taylor Uitvlugt 18 Year 1997 DDL

Review #1228; Rum #541

This is rum was bottled by Duncan Taylor, an independent bottler based out of out Scotland that is mainly known for their Scotch Whisky bottlings. They do rum as well and here we have a rum from Guyana from Diamond Distillery that was likely distilled on the Port Mourant wooden pot still. It aged for 18 years, most likely all in Europe, before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

Distillery: Demerara Distillers Limited

Bottler: Duncan Taylor

Region: Guyana

Still: Wooden Pot

ABV: 53.5%

Nose: Toasted Coconut, Black Pepper, Allspice, Green Apple

Palate:  Medium mouthfeel, Toasted Coconut, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Allspice, Dark Chocolate

Finish:  Medium length finish, Black Pepper, Toasted Coconut, Touch of Raspberry, hint of char, Dark Chocolate

A very good bottling of rum from DDL. This hits some good notes but it doesn’t really rise above being just a very good rum for me. It lacks the depth and oomph some of the those better DDL rums have had.

Rating: 6/10
