Cheramie Alternative Yeast

Review #1366; Rum #669

What we have here is a sample of a rum not available commercially or retail sale. Cheramie has produced this rum with an alternative yeast for use in blending. I was able to try some earlier this year but since I happened to get another sample of it I figured I’d give it another pass and actually publish my thoughts. This rum of course is made from fresh pressed sugar cane juice grown in Louisiana, distilled in a copper pot still and bottled.

Distillery: Cheramie

Bottler: Cheramie

Region: New Orleans

Still: Pot

ABV: 60%

Nose: Bursting with Fruit, Banana, a touch of pear, brine, Earthy, Minerality

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Banana bread, brown sugar, Pear, Brine, Earthy, Minerality

Finish: Long finish, Black Pepper, Banana Bread, Pear, Earthy, Brine

Rating: 8/10

My thoughts remain the same as they did earlier this year, and take it with a grain since I am a known lover of weird rums. This is one of the best, most flavorful, and delicious American rum’s Ive tasted. I know its meant for blending with aged stocks so far, but its quite incredible and I just wanna drink it all night. I still stand by Cheramie doing some of the best stuff in the American rum scene and they deserve our support.
