Chamarel 7 Year (2013) Velier Warren Kong

Review #1046; Rum #374

Here we have a bottling from the most famous and premier independent bottler of rums Velier. Based out of Italy they prefer to be called dependent bottlers as they work closely with the distillery source their bottles and unlike most independent bottlers their rums are aged at origin (tropical). Their rums also have no additives and come with a boatload of information. This bottle was released in 2020 as part of a set to celebrate Velier moving their offices.

Conclusion: I wanted / expected this to be better but I feel it falls into that weird range of age cane juice distillate for me. The freshness of the distillate and the oak are still fighting each other. Not old enough to develop some of those nicer flavors the long ageing in oak brings to cane juice, but too old to retain that freshness unaged and younger cane juice brings. Certainly its not bad in any way, just not my preferred profile.
