Review #1382; Rum #685
This is a bottling of rum from Independent bottler Bedford Park. This rum was distilled at Long Pond on a column still from molasses and is the CRV Marque, a very low ester Marque coming in between 0-20 gr/hLAA. This rum was then aged in Jamaica for 13 years in a rum cask before ageing in Europe for another 6 years in a rum cask. It was then bottled with no additives and is non-chill filtered. One note of interest, due to the fire at Long Pond in 2009, the column still that this rum was made on was damaged beyond repair and this marque can no longer be made.

Long Pond is a distillery that is still a bit difficult to access. But thanks to independent bottlers like Bedford Park, we can get access to stuff like this I’ve never tried. I was skeptical reading up on this marque, given that I tend to go crazy for the very high ester offerings. But, this is a great bottling of rum. It’s very fruity, with just a hint of that industrial weirdness and a bit of menthol to make things fun. I’ve enjoyed a ton of the long pond’s that I’ve had between the various independent bottlings ive tried over the years. Sadly, it seems current management is only interested in bottling over-priced and underproofed casks that don’t appeal to me. But hey, maybe in the future they’ll bottle stuff worth consideration again.
