Background: AE is a Rum-Finished Rye, 18 months finished in rum casks. However, I think it has had flavor added to it due to not being a straight rye.
ABV: 50%
Nose: Super sweet with tones of brown sugar, molasses, sugar cubes, citrus. This screams dessert.
Palate: Super sweet again. Marshmallow candy, brown sugar, sugar cubes, and a hint of rye at the end b ut it can be easily missed.
Finish: Long for a rye. Super sweet still with a coked brown and white sugar finish and a little syrup.
This may be flavor finished, and I would not drink it every day, but it is a guilty pleasure. It is overly sweet and firmly falls into a dessert whiskey category, in fact, it takes the whole category. All sweet and almost no rye spice. Enjoy it with some vanilla ice cream.
