Background: This is a wheated mashbill bourbon from Buffalo Trace of the legendary Pappy Van Winkle line. Aged for 15 years before bottling.
ABV: 53.5%
Nose: Very light, hard to find anything; remind me of finding the nose in a Blanton is where you have to work for it. Light fruits, floral with a hint of honey. All right nose but nothing that would blow me away so far.
Palate: A light mouth feel, thin oil. Floral, honeysuckle, a hint of grain and wheat. Some of the corn grain maybe that meets with the honey and sweet. It took some chewing to find these flavors, as I just did not seem like a ton was there.
Finish: An initial pop of the floral fades into a weird aftertaste maybe a little bit of acetone or something but it just does not sit right with me.
Conclusion: This is a very over-rated hyped bourbon (which I could have said before I tried it), but I figured I might as well. I get the hype and market demands but this is not good to me. I have concluded I do not like wheated bourbons and this is no exception, this is boring, bland, and had little flavor or anything that stood out. It’s merely ok to me.
