Review #1396; Rum #695
Here we have a rum from a brand new independent bottler in the United States, Parhelia Spirits. Parhelia Spirits was founded by spirits enthusiasts for spirits enthusiasts and this first batch of rum casks seems to speak on that for me. In that case in chatting with the founder, he pointed out that he wanted more distillate forward rum releases meant towards the nerds, which is both admirable as one of those nerds and risky since we are such a small segment of the market. Now onto one of these first releases and you can find more here: https://www.parheliaspirits.com/
This is a cane juice rum from Guadeloupe (where in my opinion the best Rhum Agricole comes from). This was distilled from cane juice on a column still after a 48 hour ferment and aged for 9 years in ex-bourbon cask in Europe. It was bottled at cask strength with no additives. It comes from the Reimonenq Distillery.

Overall a great release. It’s a fairly weird aged agricole in the vein of a 9 year Mauritius aged agricole I had a few years ago. Heavy on that lemon scented cleaner note, some fruits, a bit earthy, just an all around oddball and unique profile.
