Amateur Spirit Zind Humbrecht Fine d’Alsace 98-02-03

Review #1393; Brandy #76

Domaine Zind Humbrecht, a family of winegrowers since 1620, works a mosaic of Alsace’s finest terroirs. Olivier Humbrecht, leading the way today, crafted this fine d’Alsace from three vintages of Pinot Noir distillate (from the steep Heimbourg vineyard) aged together in a single new oak barrel. The vintages of the 3 distillates are 1998-2002-2003. It was bottled with no additives or chill filtration.

Wow, this is an incredible experience. Its bright and fruity, sharp and acidic, a bit nutty with slight savoriness at times. It somehow hits all those little notes while being sharp and bright, I can’t believe this spent 20 years in oak with the way it presents. Truly one of the best spirits I’ve had this year.
