Gregarious Grump New Yarmouth 1994 27 Year

Review #1381; Rum #684

Here we have a single cask of New Yarmouth rum bottled by Gregarious Grump, an independent bottler located in the United States. This rum was distilled from molasses at the New Yarmouth distillery on a column still and probably part of that parcel of tropically aged New Yarmouths that all came outa round the same time. Bottled at cask strength with no additives.

Rating: 4/10

Overall this is a fine. It has nice notes with the vanilla, a bit of fruits, that weird rubbery note is fun too. But, having had a fair few of these really old Jamaican rums, these New Yarmouths don’t hold up to the oak as well as say the really old Clarendon’s. The finish is astringent and that oak really hits you in the face on the back end. Fun to try, but the younger New Yarmouths Ive tried have been far superior.
