Review #1350; Rum #653
Gregarious Grump is an independent bottler based out of Texas that I am unfamiliar with I will admit. I see from some searching they do Cognac and Rum with no additives at cask strength, being that I have a few samples here that are bottlings from them.
This in front of me is a single cask of rum, distilled from molasses on a copper pot still at the Clarendon distillery. This rum was aged in Europe for 15 years before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.
Distillery: Clarendon
Bottler: Gregarious Grump
Region: Jamaica
Still: Pot
ABV: 55.4%
Nose: Vanilla, Lemon Zest, Pencil Shavings, Orange Peel
Palate: Thin mouthfeel, Vanilla, Pencil Shavings, Rubber Eraser, Orange Peel
Finish: Medium length finish, Pencil Shavings, Vanilla, Rubber Eraser, Hint of Lemon Zest, Orange Peel
Rating: 5/10
This is just, fine. It has some nice Vanilla flavor to it and just a bit of orange peel, but a few times I have had this strong pencil shavings note from some Clarendon rums and this one has it which really brings it down for me. The mouthfeel also comes across as quite thing despite the proof.
