Review #1341; Rum #645
Here we have a new to me rum, Monymusk overproof from the Clarendon distillery in Jamaica. This rum is a blend of pot and column distillation from molasses and bottled, like the other great Jamaica overproofs, at a hefty 63% with no additives.
Distillery: Clarendon
Bottler: Clarendon
Region: Jamaica
Still: Pot & Column
ABV: 63%
Nose: Touch of mango, Bit of vanilla
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Mango, bit of heat, vanilla, brine
Finish: Medium length finish, Mango, Vanilla, touch of brine
Rating: 4/10
You know, when compared to the other legendary bottles of Jamaican overproofs, this comes across as lacking. There’s no bold pungency, no burst of flavor, no wafting esters. It’s kind of just there, I know its meant for mixing but so are the other Jamaican overproofs but they have a lot more going on. It’s fine to use for mixing, but I won’t be adding it to my rotation of RumFire, Worthy Park Overproof, and Wray and Nephew Overproof.
