Worthy Park 109

Review #1321; Rum #626

Worthy Park 109 is a rum produced by the Worthy Park distillery in Jamaica. This rum is distilled from molasses on a copper pot still, aged for 3 years in ex-bourbon casks along with some unaged WPE, and bottled with spirit caramel at high proof for use in cocktails.  Let’s see how it is neat.

For fun note, this was supposed to be called “Gunpowder proof’, but people got up in arms over it so it was changed to 109 to avoid a lawsuit.

Nose:  Raisins, Banana Bread, bit of caramel, Black Pepper

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Banana, Black Pepper, Raisins, Caramel, Nutmeg

Finish:  Medium length finish, Banana, Raisin, Black Pepper, Raisins, Caramel Nutmeg

Rating: 6/10

Now this is a pretty good rum. This is like if Coruba was actually good, this has that Jamaican rumminess to it, and that dark color if you desire such things. But, it’s pretty darn good and could form a potent backbone to any cocktail you would want to make with it., I know that additives are bad, but in this case its what the market wants. Is this product aimed at me, not really, I don’t make very many cocktails at home. But, with things like Coruba out there, I think its worthy trying to tap into that tiki / rum cocktail market for sure.
