Alambique Serrano Blend #6 Otono

Review #1271; Rum #576

Alambique Serrano is a rum brand that comes from the Cañada region of Oaxaca. Max Krassel started producing aguardiente in the 1930s and his grandsons carry on that tradition. The produce a variety of blends and single cask cane juice rums in the town of Santa Maria Tlalixtac.

Blend #6 was grown from cane of the Java varietal and grown in Santa Santa Maria Tlalixtac where it was harvest 2,500-3,800 feet above sea level. After being harvested the cane was crushed and fermented in stainless steel tanks with ambient yeast.  This blend consists of 66% Krassel Still rum, aged for 29 months in ex-bourbon casks and finished in American/Limousin Oak barrels. The other 34% is unaged Krassel still rum that was distilled in January of 2024. It was then bottled with no water, sugar, or coloring added

Simply an excellent blend of rums. I would venture to guess the unaged component adds a nice brightness to this, while the aged component brings a lot of those baking spices and touches of savory notes to the mix. A bit of vanilla sweetness helps round it out but this rum is one of those you can focus on the really nice parts or just keep coming back to look for something new.
