Review #1251; Rum #559
This is a bottling of the “new” bottling of El Dorado 15, with a bottle from Europe. This is a blend of of rums distilled on the Enmore, Diamond, Port Mourant, and Versailles stills that were aged for 15 years in Guyana in ex-bourbon casks.
The big change here is the difference in sugar. Per Fat Rum Pirate’s hydrometer testing the old El Dorado 15 had 31 grams per liter of sugar added which, to me, is a whole bunch. Per Shaun Caleb, they age with caramel in the barrel which is where the “sweetness” came from in the old bottlings. I’ll leave that up to you to decide if you think that is the case. Regardless, it is being phased out and this new bottling is purported to have no added sugar.

This is a pretty good rum. A very solid aged rum that is nice to sip on. Its well balanced, leans a bit savory with some fruits that pop in and out. Especially with the proof, this is quite good.
