Review #1215; Rum #529
Review #1216; Rum #530
This is a bottling of rum done as a partnership between Velier and Appleton Estate. This is a bottling of 13 casks made from 100% pot still rums from the Appleton Estate in Jamaica. This rum was distilled from molasses and aged for 29 years in Jamaica before being bottled at a high proof with no additives.
Distillery: Appleton Estate
Bottler: Velier
Region: Jamaica
ABV: 63%
Nose: Wonderful nose, toasted brown sugar, coconut, dark chocolate, Vanilla, Orange Peel, Banana
Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Star Anise, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, Orange Peel, Banana, Black Pepper, Oak Spice, Raspberry
Finish: Medium length finish, Dark Chocolate, Vanilla, Orange Peel, Star Anise, Banana, Black Pepper, Oak spice
This is a great example of a very old tropically aged Jamaican Rum. Great flavors, but it feels to me, in comparison to some of the other old tropically aged Jamaican rums I’ve had, it lacks some of the oomph that those other releases have had. Whether that is due to this marque or this batch of barrels I am not sure. This is a great release no doubt, but not as great as some other ones.
