Review #1207; Rum #521
Here we have a single cask of rum from Hampden Estate bottled by the independent bottlers over at Rolling Fork for the r/bourbon single cask program. This rum was distilled from molasses as a blend of marques and was aged for 11 years before being bottled at cask strength with no additives or filtering.
Distillery: Hampden Estate
Bottler: Rolling Fork
Region: Jamaica
Still: Pot
Cask: Ex-Bourbon
ABV: 59.4%
Nose: Tropical fruits, Pineapple, Banana, Caramel, Black Pepper, Vanilla
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Pineapple, Banana, Caramel, Black Pepper, Vanilla, Orange peel, Lemon Zest, touch of glue
Finish: Medium length finish, Caramel, Black Pepper, Pineapple, Banana, Orange peel, Lemon Zest, Touch of Glue
This is a great rum. This is a great example of a lower ester Hampden that has just enough of that glue funk and over-ripe fruits without those crazy intense acidic fruits you get from the higher ester offerings. The vanilla and fruits work well together as does the oak influence which feels appropriate here. Overall, a great offering and selection.
