Review #1183; Rum #498
This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached.
Here we have a blend of rums from Alambique Serrano, a brand of single origin Oaxcan rum. This rum was distilled by brothers Rommel, Axel, & William Krassel in Santa Maria Tlalixtae, Oaxaca. The cane used for this rum was the Java varietal which was crushed for cane juice. The rum was fermented in stainless steel vats and wooden pine tanks with ambient yeasts.
This rum is blend with following components:
41% Pot Still: aged 21 months in a first use Acacia cask
38% Krassel Still: aged 36 months in an ex-Cognac French Oak cask
21% Krassel Still: aged 18 months in a west, American Oak cask that previously held vino generoso
This blend was bottled at cask strength with no additives.

This is a great rum from Alambique Serrano. The flavors here sound a bit strange but really work well together. The backbone is those fruits with the spices rounding it out. Alambique is one of the brands that I am most excited about that, based on all the offerings I’ve tried, should be at or near the top of every rum lovers list to try. They are making some great rum that can rival some of the heavy hitters out there.
