Here we have a bottling of rum by the independent bottler Nectary of the Daily Drams. This is a column still molasses based rum from the Le Galion distillery that has been distilled in the Grand Arome style and matured in a virgin Oak cask for 2 years before being bottled.

Nose: Lemon, Greek Yogurt, olives, Green Apple

Palate:  Medium oily mouthfeel, Olives, Lemon, Greek Yogurt, Guava, tannins, vanilla, metallic tinge

Finish:  Medium length finish, Olives, green wood, lemon, tannic, vanilla, metallic tinge

Rating: 3/10

I’m pretty skeptical of New Oak aged rum and this just falls into the realm of poorly constructed. The new oak and the soupy weird Le Galion just do not mesh well at all. It also managed to produce some really sour and weird flavors that I do not enjoy clashing together. The olivey brine and sweetness does not go well together for my palate. The green wood note there doesn’t mesh well with anything at all. Let’s keep Le Galion Grand Arome away from oak.
