Isle of Jura 11 Year 2009 Cadenheads

Review #1114; Scotch #215

I had this blind then was revealed the bottling, so keep that in mind reading my notes.

In another blind review of a secret Santa sample, we have a whisky from a distillery I’ve never had, Jura. 7 wood jokes aside, this is a bottling from independent bottler Cadenhead’s. This whisky was aged for 11 years in “Butt” before being bottled at cask strength with no additives or chill filtration.

Distillery: Jura

Bottler: Cadenhead’s

Region: Isle of Jura

ABV: 55.2%. Cask Strength.

Age: 11 Years. Distilled in 2009. Bottled in 2020.

Cask type: Butt

Nose: Honey, Crisp Ripe Red apples, Hay, Bready

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Honey, Crisp Apple, Hay, Bready, a bit farmy, vanilla

Finish:  Medium length finish, peppery, vanilla, hay, bready, farmy

Rating: 6/10

A very good single malt. Nice honey and vanilla notes, with a bit of floral thrown in. The spices are nice and it’s well integrated. It doesn’t blow you away with flavor but is a very enjoyable dram.

Guess: Clynelish, 9-12 Years, 52-55% abv, ex-bourbon

This was revealed to be an 11 year Jura. I thought this was very good whisky. Good flavors, well integrated, just a pleasant single malt all around.
