Review #980; Rum #320: Thompson Brothers New Yarmouth 27yr 1994

Thompson Brothers New Yarmouth 27yr 1994

This rum comes to us from that Independent bottler Thompson Brothers. This rum was distilled from a pot still, aged for 27 years, then bottled at cask strength with no additives. This comes from the New Yarmouth distillery in Jamaica, which is one that not much bottlings like this emerge.

ABV: 60.1%

Nose: Clove, Crème Brulee, Milk Chocolate, Black Tea, touch of leather, Cinnamon, oak spice, faint star anise

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Clove, Oak Spice, Cinnamon, Leather, Black Tea, Milk Chocolate, Vanilla Cream

Finish: Medium length finish, clove, oak spice, cinnamon, leather, black tea, milk chocolate, vanilla cream

Rating: 7/10

A great example of a well aged rum. The cask seems to do a lot of the driving here as its very spice driven. Clove, black tea, and cinnamon come through with a touch of leather and black tea. Some milk chocolate and vanilla pop some sweetness in to the mix while some faint raspberry and licorice are sprinkled in.
