Review #970; Scotch #212: North Star Spirits Clynelish 20yr 2000

North Star Spirits Clynelish 20yr 2000

This bottling comes to us from the independent bottler North Star Spirits. This single malt from the Clynelish distillery was aged in a sherry but and finished in a Portuguese brandy butt. It was bottled at cask strength with no additives or chill filtering. This was a single barrel.

ABV: 53.3%

Nose: Hay, Honey, Shortbread, Green Apple, Grapefruit

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Honey, Green Apple, Grapefruit, Short Bread, a bit of copper

Finish: Medium length finish, Shortbread, Grapefruit, Allspice, bit of copper, raspberry, nutmeg

Rating: 5/10

The finish on this is nice but the entire dram feels very disjointed. Spikes of fruit pop in and out of the savory bready base flavor, there is a weird metallic tinge that drapes over the whole flavor profile. The fruits are nice but can’t save this from being a fun and weird oddity, but not the most enjoyable thing to drink.
