This is a release from the McCarthy’s line of American Single Malt which comes from Hood River Distillers. This is a 3 years old Malt whisky crafted from Port Ellen Maltings, which is aged in a mix of refill and virgin oak barrels before being bottled with no chill filtering.

ABV: 42.5%

Nose: Fall Leaves, slightly sweat bbq pork, vanilla, Earthy

Palate: Lighter mouthfeel, bbq pork, vanilla, slight brine, earthy

Finish: Shorter finish, bbq pork, vanilla, brine, earthy, peppery

Rating: 6/10

Overall a very good and impressive offering. This is the 2nd McCarthy’s I’ve had (the previous was a single cask) and this is quite enjoyable. Ardmore levels of peat, a bit of bbq, spices, vanilla pops in, a bit of rotting vegetation. The amount of flavor that was squeezed into 42.5% is quite commendable as well. A great introductory offering to the brand that makes me want to try more of the portfolio.
