Foursquare Plenipotenziario
This bottling comes to us as another collaboration from the “dependent” bottler Velier and the Foursquare distillery in Barbados. This rum was distilled in 2007 from molasses, is a blend of pot and column distillate, and was aged for 12 years in ex-bourbon barrels before being bottled at a high proof. Of note on this one is that this is a blend of light and heavy distillate, with some of the heavy distillate coming from the Coffey column still.
ABV: 60%
Nose: Crème Brulee, Toasted Coconut, hint of star anise, floral
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Crème brulee, Star Anise, Toasted Coconut, Floral, slight mint, milk chocolate
Finish: Medium length finish, faint star anise, toasted coconut, mint, milk chocolate
Rating: 6/10
A very good rum. Hits some of the classic notes of one of the ECS vintages, even manages some new notes I don’t normally get (floralness and star anise). While very good it doesn’t quite rise to some of the best offerings (2005 still reigns supreme for me). Overall quite good, but when price is factored in not much of a winner for me.
