Review #920; Rum #281: Foursquare Patrimonio 14yr (2004)

Foursquare Patrimonio

This is a bottling collaboration done between Velier, that famous “dependent bottler” as they state from Italy and Foursquare that famous Barbados Rum distillery headed up by Richard Seale. This is a blend of Pot and Column still rums from Foursquare that was distilled in 2004, aged in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks till 2019 (14 years) then bottled at a high proof with no additives. There were only 6,000 bottles of this released. Note that 10 years of the ageing was ex-bourbon, then 4 years in ex-sherry.

ABV: 58%

Nose: Toasted Coconut, Raspberry, Crème Brulee, Orange Peel, Raisin, faint Sulphur

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Toasted Coconut, Orange Peel Raspberry, Dark Chocolate

Finish: Medium length finish, Toasted Coconut, Raisins, Dark Chocolate, Raspberry, Vanilla Cream, faint Sulphur

Rating: 7/10

Another great offering from Foursquare as expected. My last experience with sherried foursquare as not quite was good as I thought the Sulphur took over, but here it is a nice weird accent that helps along the overall profile. The savory bites of black tea, dark chocolate, pair well with this strong raspberry and crème brulee note. It is quite a good rum which is no surprise given Foursquare’s track record with me.
