Review #914; Brandy #43: Version Francaise DOMAINE DE POUTËOU 1990

Version Francaise Domaine de Pouteou 1990

Disclosure: I received this set of samples from the Importers at La Masion & Velier for review.

Version Francaise is La Masion du Whisky’s foray dedicated to French Spirits, in this case a single cask of Armagnac. Domaine de Pouteou is located in Lannemaignan in the heart of Bas-Armagnac. It has been owned by the Tarbe family for over a century. This cask was a 420-litre barrel constructed from local oak that held this spirit for 32ish years before being bottled with no additives.

ABV: 46.3%

Nose: Rancio, Figs, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Raspberry, Blackberry

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Dark Chocolate, Rancio, Black Pepper, Raspberry, Blackberry

Finish: Longer Finish, Dark Chocolate, Rancio, Black Pepper, Rapsberry, Orange Peel, Oak Spice

Rating: 8/10

An excellent bottling, this is a great example of a well-aged Armangac. Heavy savory flavors from the time in cask are executed well with dark chocolate and slight bitter notes. These are balanced out by a hefty amount of fruit and spices that pair well. Another fantastic selection.
