Review #856; Scotch #204: Caperdonich 25yr (1994) SMWS 38.28 “Warms the cockles of your heart”

This bottling comes to us by way of the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society from Caperdonich, the closed speyside distillery. This Single malt was aged for 25 years in a 2nd fill ex-bourbon barrel before being bottled at cask strength with no additives and was non-chill filtered.

ABV: 53.6%

Nose: Green Apple, Pineapple, Orange Zest, Lavender, Slight Hay, Floralness, Black Pepper.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, orange Peel, Green Apple, Lavender, Hay, Pineapple, Rancio, Allspice.

Finish: Medium length finish, Lemon Peel, Orange Zest, Lavender, Rancio. Black Pepper, Allspice.

Rating: 8/10

This is just a fantastic big mixed bowl. Tropical fruits, spices, rancio, pepperiness, Floralness. A truly fantastic cask full of rich flavor and complexity.

3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.

4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.
