This bottling is an 11-year-old Ballechin from the Edradour distillery. Distilled in 2009 then aged for 11 years in a first fill sherry cask, it was bottled at cask strength with no additives or filtering by The Ultimate Whisky Company. A tasting panel from the Aficionados group and r/scotch selected it for the r/scotch community. Let us see how they selected.
ABV: 58.3%
Nose: Raspberry Jam, Bacon, Figs, Nutmeg, Vanilla, Campfire Ash.
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Raspberry Jam, Bacon, Figs, Campfire Ash, Nutmeg.
Finish: Medium length finish, Raspberry Jam, Bacon, Figs, Campfire Ash, Nutmeg.
Rating: 7/10
This is a decadent savory and sweet breakfast in a bottle for me. Raspberry Jam slathered on bacon, spices, campfire smoke, figs. I tend to love these releases for the way they express smoke and peat and this does not fall short of that experience. These tend to be monster sherry bombs and this is, but the heavy peated distillate holds up well as its aggressive in its own right.
