Review #848; Rum #239: Mhoba Franky’s Pineapple

This rum comes to us by way of Mhoba, the South African rum distiller. They produce fresh pressed cane juice rum from their small sugar estate. This is a blend of their Glass Cask Rum and two different Pot Stilled rums that have been infused with fresh and seared Natal Queen Pineapple.

ABV: 43%

Nose: Vegetal, Woody, BBQ Smoke, Vanilla, Charred Pineapple Bark, Cinnmon, Cumin.

Palate: Lighter mouthfeel, vegetal, Charred Pineapple Bark, Cinnamon, Cumin, BBQ Smoke, Glue, Young Wood

Finish: Shorter, Glue, Vanilla, Overly charred pineapple, bitter grill char, Glue, Young wood.

Rating: 3/10

This is a first for me, not being a fan of a Mhoba product but this just misses the mark for me. Young green woodnotes, a very bitter and astringent char flavor, and an offputting acidic finish make for a product that I do not find enjoyable. I know there are some out there who like this, but its not for me.
