Review #827; Rye #65: The Senator 6yr Single Barrel Rye

This is a single barrel of rye, bottled by The Senator brand and produced my MGP. This rye of the 95/5 MGP mashbill is aged for 6 years before being bottled at cask strength with no additives.

ABV: 53.8%

Nose: Black Pepper, Pine, Slight Tobacco Leaf, Vanilla, Orange Peel.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Black Pepper, Tobacco Leaf, Orange Peel, Faint Pine.

Finish: Shorter Finish, Pop of Pine, Black Pepper, Vanilla, Dark Chocolate.

Rating: 6/10

A very good rye. This is a bit off profile from what I expect from MGP, the pepper and spice is on display with the fruit toned down. The dark chocolate on the finish is a nice tough as is the touch of pine. The lack of mint was surprising but it’s a good change of pace from most MGP rye I have had.
