Review #798; Rum #218: El Dorado Rare Collection 20yr (1996) Enmore

This rum comes to us from the legendary Demerara distillers located in Guyana. Enmore in this case refers to the wooden coffey column still. This rum was aged for 20 years in ex-bourbon casks in Guyana before being bottled with no additives.

ABV: 57.2%

Nose: Earthy, Dark Chocolate, Guava, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, toasted Brown Sugar, faint industrial, Espresso

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Dark Chocolate, Guava, Nutmeg, Faint Industrial Smoke, Toasted Brown Sugar, Earthy, Espresso

Finish: Longer finish, Espresso, Dark Chocolate, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Toasted Brown Sugar, Earthy

Rating: 8/10

Another excellent tropically aged rum from DDL. The mouthfeel is rich and oily, the flavors pop and are well balanced against each other, as the slight sweet pairs well with the heavy spices and more savory aspects, especially that espresso and dark chocolate note that is prevalent. The oak is well integrated and the heat well maintained.
