This rum comes to us from legendary producers out of Guyana Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL). This rum was distilled in 2004, aged in the tropics in ex-bourbon barrels, then bottled at cask strength with no additives in 2018. Let’s see how it holds up.
ABV: 60.1%
Nose: Burnt Caramel, Crème brûlée, Blackberry compote, espresso, Dark Chocolate, Caramelized Banana
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, espresso, dark chocolate, Crème brûlée, slighty burnt caramel, toffee, well managed oak, touch of leather
Finish: Longer finish, oak spice, espresso, black tea, dark chocolate, Crème brûlée, burnt caramel, leather
Rating: 8/10
One of my few experiences with tropically aged DDL and man, this does not disappoint. Bold flavors, rich spices, well integrated oak. The package is all here for me. Now, it does not reach quite has high as some rums I’ve had for me, but this is quite the excellent rum.
