Review #765; Rum #198: Appleton 15yr

This rum is a new mainstay product line from Appleton Estate. A 15 year rum aged entirely in Jamaica in 40 gallon American Oak Barrels. The distillate is a blend of pot and column still rums. It is bottled with no additives.

ABV: 43%

Nose: Black Tea, Toffee, Black Pepper, Orange Zest

Palate: Light mouthfeel, Toffee, Orange Zest, Black Tea

Finish: Shorter finish, Orange Zest, Vanilla cream, Black Tea

Rating: 5/10

This is a just fine release. It hits some of those notes you want in a rum that has been aged for a good length of time tropically, oak and bitter notes with a hint of sweetness. It doesn’t bring anything very exciting to the table, and I prefer the younger aged versions to this. Nice to sip on, but a bit too pricey for regular cocktailing.
