Review #750; Rum #187: Long Pond 15yr ITP

This is a special release from National Rums of Jamacia distillery Long Pong. This rum is special as it is a single marque, the ITP Marque which comes in at 90-120 Ester count. It is also special as it continues the trend of producers finally directly releasing their own products instead of going through a broker. This rum was distilled on their John Dore Pot still, then aged for 15 years in an ex-bourbon barrel before bottling.

ABV: 45.7%

Nose: Pineapple, Toasted Brown Sugar, Star Anise.

Palate: Lighter Mouthfeel, Vanilla, Toasted Coconut, Star Anise, Pineapple, Faint Orange Peel

Finish: Short finish, Orange Peel, Star Anise, Pineapple, Toasted Coconut.

Rating: 5/10

Overall, this is a good rum. The fruits are nice and it has some spices and just a hint of that classic Jamaican funk. I wanted to like this more given how special of a release it is, but the lower proof hurts this a little bit. Overall a good rum that is well made. I do not bring prices into my review score but this suffers from the same issue the Hampden LROK 11 year does, really high prices for some products that have been cut to a lower proof.
