Review #746; Rum #185: Renegade Pre-Cask New Bacolet

This rum comes to us from the Renegade rum distillery located in Grenada. These “pre-cask” rums are unaged, fresh pressed sugarcane juice rums that have been distilled on a pot still or column still. Each bottling comes from a different farm and cane varietal on Grenada in order to explore the terroir of the spirit and the island.

This cane code can be used on Renegades website to access the nerdiest rum page you can imagine about this bottling, so I have included it for you here.

Cane Code: PC04H21-P1

ABV: 50%

Nose: Herbaceous, Minerality, River Water, Peppery, Earthy, Brine.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Minerality, Herbaceous, Brine, Peppery.

Finish: Medium length, Herbaceous, Slight Vanilla, Brine, Peppery, Minerality.

Rating: 6/10

A very good unaged rum. The flavors here are nice and well balanced, with some of that Minerality that is really good.

Overall, this has been a very fun exploration of how all of the factors affect unaged cane juice rum. I really do hope these come to the U.S. eventually as this is a great educational tool for people and is also a series of very good to great rums. This is a cool project going on in Grenada and I want to be able to support it.
